Quest for the Book #04.1
previously on:
we learned the book would be "useful for anyone looking to travel between any planes without injury"
Vorrakaz is victorious in the tickle at the pickle against the Minotaur Thebus!
Rowan had a secret conversation about the missing homeless in Tiberium
We also learned the book is in the hands of someone who has killed several guardsmen, was last seen heading north and may be serving an Illithid.
---
Squad rolls out from Rowan's my house my castle, heading to The Pickled Eye Inn for some brekkie/brunch.
En route, the party dicuss some wild dreams they had - Thistle woke up so inspired, she learned a new spell, meanwhile Rowan awoke feeling more dextrous and wise. Ilvar, on the other hand, awoke hungover and without his worms and therefore noticed nothing unusual.
Upon arriving at the inn, Estevaan is noticeable absent. It's a bit early for any rowdiness to have started. Esther, Fi and Re are here already.
Breakfast smoothies arrive (champions eat free!) and the party joins Esther's booth. Fi and Re leave. Esther tells us more about the person who has the book:
Kuu Kalan is powerful, and has a large amount of money. Money talks, no matter how obnoxious he may be. Our party don't look like his usual crowd, unless we enjoy animal cruelty among our hobbies. He is an odd man, and vocal about serving the Dark Lady of The Wood.
Ilvar recognises this name as one belonging to a growing presence in the Great Wood. Creatures go missing in its' part of the woods, and this area has a malicious aura. Zyldi and Thistle agree, recognising their own culture's warnings against that part of the Wood.
Esther continues:
Kuu Kalan wears (tacky) black armor, and he is dangerous. He is often seen transporting items (or people) on behalf of others.
Matreos steps aside to phone a friend - we overhear he calls Lady Sylvetta to update her on who has taken the book, and asks if it is wise to proceed.
- the food arrives -
A giant blue steak is set in front of Esther. Ilvar checks to see if the Loxodon is still here. Thankfully Zyldi asks what we are all thinking, and Esther explains she enjoys a good Displacer Beast steak in the mornings.
Rowan asks how Matreos was able to communicate, and he describes a spell call Sending (which sounds suspiciously like Twitter). Matreos explains Lady Sylvetta wishes us to proceed, though with caution.
Matreos recalls his previous encounter with Kuu Kalan was rescuing the Kobold who is now Lady Sylvetta's assistant, though in a previous life this Kobold was of high standing in his society and would have been quite the bargaining chip in his clan's politics.
The party follows Esther out of the inn, through the city towards the slums of Tiberium. We stop at the mouth of an alleyway, adjacent to a warehouse. We enter the warehouse to search for clues!

Quest for the Book #03.2
The Tickle at the Pickle
Tumblr media
Upstairs at the Pickled Eye, there's a WWE ring in the center of the room. It's well-lit and a small crowd is gathering around the edge of the ring. Estevaan arrives and begins the announcement of the fight.
Ilvar goes up to Vorrakaz with a final word of advice - "do not give up" and stares intently at Vorrakaz to convey his promise of help.
Bartemus sidles up to Vorrakaz with his broken nose and bloody face, and tells him he is not as tall as Thebus, and says he will enjoy the fight. Ilvar threatens to put the gnome in his garden.
Estevaan announces Thebus in the Bronze Corner, and announces Vorrakaz in the Silver Corner. Ilvar quietly casts BLESS on Vorrakaz after hearing the prize for the winner is 8000 gold pieces.
- the fight begins -
Vorrakaz bops Thebus in the tum, followed by a swift uppercut to the chin.
Thebus tries to parry, but lunges and misses. The crowd were not expecting this!
Thebus tries to tackle Vorrakaz, butting with his horns. He misses again! Embarrassed, he tries to keep the momentum going and swing a punch, but it doesn't land. Thebus sways.
Vorrakaz offers Thebus an out, Thebus says he will never lie down.
Vorrakaz shouts 'leshgo' and throws a punch, hitting Thebus though not knocking him over again. Another flurry of blows, followed by a final uppercut, and Thebus is on the ground, out cold.
- Vorrakaz, champion of the Pickled Inn -

Quest for the Book #03.1
previously on:
We arrived at Tiberium
Zyldi intimidated halfling pickpocket
The party arrived at Rowan's my house my castle
Thistle and Niamh had a browse through Rowan's drawers and found a picture of Rowan and others whom we assumed were his family
Party reconvened at the Pickled Eye (inn)
sidenote: Vorrakaz noticed the sign for the pickled eye had been altered. previously it showed a hand with an eye in the palm, where now the eye was painted into a a cup.
---
Ilvar, returned from the library, tells the party he has some information on the book:
it would be useful for anyone looking to travel between any planes without injury (Mt. Celestia, 9 Hells, Faewild, ShadowFell, Abyss and more)
The party has a brief discussion on the merits of Professor Matreos while he was in the little sorcerers room. We are concerned that he is not always forthcoming with information, and he appears to be incompetent at times.
When he returns, Ilvar calls over Thebus the Minotaur to join us as he is a friend of Matreos. Ilvar has offered Thebus a steak, or a wheel of cheese. Thankfully, Thebus is not offended by this (Ilvar is oblivious).
We discover Thebus is a wrestler, and before the party can stop him he has bet 10 gold pieces that Vorrakaz could beat him in a fight.
Estevaan arrives - a shiny blue/purple gem dragonborn. Meanwhile, the tiefling at the bar is joined by two beings with flames for hair. Rowan tells us the tiefling is Esther - a cleric of Cipha (god of the revel). The fire Genassi twins Fi and Re are good friends of her. The Gnome who got his faced smashed by Esther is Bartemus, an old-flame (haha) who thinks he is entitled to more than his lot.
Rowan lets on that Thebus is ticklish.
Niamh has moved to the bar and befriended Glen Gouleh, the bartender, and has starting making flashy cocktails. To the casual observer, it appears the bottles are moving on their own.
The party prepares for the Tickle at the Pickle.
